Cagayan de Oro city, Mindanao, Philippines
Sunday July 1 2007, 6 AM

Efren Bermoy and junior, Felix Lucariza,
...., Patrick Congob,
Ricardo Fabe, mokmok, Jaecel Umas-As, Mario Temario
This run was organized by:
- ADIDAS with the help of some local City Government,
- Pelaez Sportcentre CDO,
- REGIONAL TRAINING SCHOOL 10,
9000 6th Division Patag, Cagayan de Oro City.
Meaning a run for commercial reasons from
the Adidas sports equipment company.
(An open / Invitational run for 3 and 5 km.)
_In my
registration paper was well announced that the run would
start strictly at 6 AM!!
And what happened? We start 10 minutes earlier, they couldn't
wait!
Even the backward counting from ten of was too much difficult to
wait for and the gun got fired at 2 seconds before zero time.
Happily no collective warming up and that was much better for the
correct starting time.
_I woke up at 5 and at 5.15 I jumped on
my bike to go to the sports centre in the city.
Nicely in time I arrived and I was pretty relaxed for this 'only'
5 km.
The day and afternoon + evening before it did rain a lot and it
was cooling off nicely.
So the temperature was more on my side this time, even early
clouds were hiding the first heat of the sun.
_The start line was not that smart situated, because if you
want a good safe and honest start, you should create a wide start
line.
So the fastest athletes will be able to create more distance from
the other runners and you will have no stampede in the first
hundreds of meters.

a 'stampede' start line
There was plenty space in the centre of the
oval to make a nice wide start line, but race directors in this
place are just not specialists but more hobbyists and even when
they cooperate with an athletic club, the organizers just do their
own or just do not ask good advice from specialists in any kind of
running!
_The track was simple, leaving the sports
palace entering the Velez street, to the right to the 'Highway',
to the right until reaching a turning point for 3 or 5 km and the
same way back.
Sunday, there is normally less traffic then on weekdays, so it was
good running.
_Before my turning point I noticed that my club mate Felix
was passing me pretty fast and just after him Ricardo, he was
overtaking me in even more speed.
Well, what I could do? Nothing, I know I have to save power for my
last 500 meters, my speed was just okay, not too much slow, not
too fast.
Also in the first halve I was passing Paul, he was walking but
what he was doing, in or out the race? I don't know, yet?
_On my way back I picked up Ricardo and this I was
expecting off course he wouldn't be able to keep on running that
fast!
In the finish I really didn't hear on what place I arrived, I only
concentrated on my time and this was satisfying, a good 21.45 but
off course I have to know if the distance is truly 5 km!
Barcy
_Only one female Oro runner was joining this event, Barcy
Valerio.
I didn't hear about her result, maybe later.
Anyway, almost no one is using a watch to know their running time,
it's almost always more running for a place(price), from one to
ten?
So, that makes it hard for the club to register the results from
the Oro athletes.
_So, our next run will be where?
As far as I know, the MILO run will be also this month, because
last year it was also in July and then in August probably the
Mayors run again?
_On my way back cycling home, I met 'Cory' Malon in the
Limketkay area, an Oro Sunday runner before and she 's still
running.
Hopefully she will ever join the club again, because also the club
has a poor balance between male and female.
Sooo Cory if you read this, just wish you success in 'keep on
running', but always welcome back, hehe...
